when the trader you copy sells

everyone chooses a trader by their entries. what actually decides a copied position is the other end: when they sell, how much, and whether you should follow them out at a loss.

copying a fomo trader's exits means their sells close your position too, not just their buys opening it. with copyfomo, mirror mode sells the same fraction they sell (they sell 30%, you sell 30%), all at once mode closes you fully on any sell, and a separate setting decides whether you follow them out when they sell at a loss.

most people spend their time choosing a trader by entries. the exit settings get skipped at the end of the flow. that is backwards, and the reason is in the numbers.

why exits matter more than entries

we timed 29 first buys from a large fomo wallet: median +39% one minute after the leader's fill, +43% at fifteen minutes, most given back by sixty. the full study and its caveats are worth reading, and past moves do not predict future ones, but the shape is the point: the move is short, and it reverses.

on that shape, an entry is only half a trade. a copied buy with no copied sell turns into a bag that rode up and back down while you were not looking. copying exits is what makes a copy a position that opens and closes with your trader, rather than a buy signal you forgot to act on.

mirror vs all at once

the exit style setting is account-wide, and it decides how a trader's sell translates into yours.

their sellmirror (default)all at once
sells 30% of their bag30% of yours is soldyour whole position closes
sells 50%, then the rest an hour laterhalf, then the resteverything on the first sell
sells almost everythingyour position closes fullyyour position closes fully

mirror follows their conviction, trims included. many good traders scale out: take a piece at a double, let the rest run. mirror keeps you in that rhythm.

all at once treats their first sell as the signal. it suits you if you think the first trim is the tell, or if you would rather be out cleanly than hold a shrinking remainder. the cost is that you give up the part of the move they kept riding.

either way, a near-full sell closes everything, so you are never left holding dust.

when your trader sells at a loss

this is the setting people underestimate. a trader cutting a loss is making a decision about their position, at their entry, with their size. your entry is not theirs, your size is not theirs, and your plan for the token may not be theirs either.

  • sell with them (default): every exit is mirrored, profit or loss. simple, and it keeps you aligned with the person you chose to copy.
  • hold when i'm down: an exit is mirrored only if your position is in profit at that moment. if you are down, you keep the position, now under your own stop loss rather than their decision. the bot tells you each time it holds.
hold only works with a stop. "hold when i'm down" without a stop loss means a position nobody is managing: your trader has left, and nothing will sell it on the way down. if you pick it, set a stop loss for that trader. the settings guide covers how the two work together.

who is allowed to close your position

if you copy more than one trader, overlapping coins are inevitable. copyfomo's rule is strict: only the trader who opened your position can close it. if trader a opened your bag and trader b sells the same coin, nothing happens to yours.

that keeps each position tied to one decision-maker. and once a token has left your wallet, whether by a trader's sell, your take profit or your stop loss, copyfomo does not buy it back for 24 hours. re-entering a coin one of your traders just exited, behind another one, is the fastest way to lose twice on the same token in an afternoon. copying several fomo traders goes through the same-coin settings in more detail.

your exits, alongside theirs

a position can leave in five ways, and the trader's sell is only one of them:

  1. your trader sells. mirrored at the fraction they sold, or in full with all at once.
  2. your take profit or stop loss fires, on the levels you set for that trader, not theirs.
  3. you sell by hand from /portfolio: 25, 50, 75, 100% or a custom share, with what you would receive shown first.
  4. sell all sells every sellable position, one after another, with a summary at the end.
  5. it leaves without being sold: withdraw a token as-is, or move everything to your personal wallet.

take profit and stop loss are your own, independent from the trader. a ladder of take profit rungs plus a stop is how you keep some of a move your trader rode all the way back down.

the edge cases, handled

situationwhat happens
you pause everythingnothing mirrored, nothing sold; take profit and stop loss pause too, and resume with you
you stop copying a traderthe position stays; their future sells no longer close it; your own tp and sl keep protecting it
a sell does not go throughyou are told, always and immediately
a sell belongs to another trader's positionthe bot stays quiet: nothing to decide
the token loses its liquiditychecked over at least a day, from more than one source, before it is marked as unsellable

when a sell fails, the reason is usually the token rather than the tool: thin liquidity, a route that closed, or a contract that restricts selling. why a fomo sell fails walks through each cause.

copying exits does not make copying safe. a mirrored exit can still be a loss, sometimes a total one. copying a trader does not reduce the risk of the token they chose.

copyfomo is independent and not affiliated with fomo. what to do when your trader sells at a loss is one of the last questions in the copy flow in @copyfomo_bot, and exit style lives in /settings next to it. they deserve as much thought as the trader you pick.

frequently asked

what happens to my copy when the trader i copy sells?

with copyfomo, their sell is mirrored into your position. in mirror mode, if they sell 30% of their bag, 30% of yours is sold. in all at once mode, any sell of theirs closes your whole position. either way, a near-full sell closes everything so you are not left holding dust. your own take profit or stop loss can fire first.

should i sell when the trader i copy sells at a loss?

it depends on your entry. their loss is measured from their price, and yours may be different. copyfomo offers two options: sell with them, which mirrors every exit, or hold when i'm down, which mirrors an exit only when your position is in profit and otherwise leaves it under your own stop loss. the bot tells you each time it holds.

what if two traders i copy buy the same coin and one sells?

on copyfomo, only the trader who opened your position can close it. if trader a opened your bag and trader b sells the same coin, your position is untouched. after any exit, a 24 hour no re-buy rule stops the bot from buying that coin back behind another trader.

do exits keep copying if i stop copying a trader?

no. when you stop copying someone, nothing is sold and the position keeps its pnl, but the mirroring stops, exits included: their later sells no longer close your bag. your own take profit and stop loss keep protecting it, and you can sell by hand from /portfolio at any time.

why do copy trading exits matter more than entries?

because on memecoins the move is short. in our timing of 29 first buys from a large fomo wallet, the median was +39% one minute after the leader's fill, +43% at fifteen minutes, and most of it was given back by sixty. a good entry with no exit plan tends to round-trip back to where it started.

stop reading. start copying.

pick a trader from the fomo leaderboard, set your size, and the entries and the exits land in your own wallet while you sleep.
